I'll
start off this newest page with some photos from Drew Hiewarter, and
Jim Phillipson, and then it's into the Quality Auto segment.
Drew,
for those of you who don't know who he is, writes the Bench Racer
column for Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine, and has been taking pictures
at drag races for yeeears...
Jim
Phillipson has been a fixture photographing trackside for as long
as I can remember...he's one of the few I know that has a "Fuel Altereds
Forever" license plate frame...
Then,
from Michael Cerutti and others, I'm featuring on this page, the Quality
Auto AA/FA of Mike's dad, Fred Cerruti, a fixture in the Northern
California history of drag racing.
And
now, on with the show!

These
next two photos of the Strip Teaser...I'll be honest, I'm baffled!
If anybody knows who this is, let me know! I can't find anything on
this car.
But,
I do know who's car is in the background of this first picture...

I received
an e-mail a while back from Michael Cerruti, who's father is Fred
Cerruti, owner and driver of the Quality Auto AA/FA. To say he was
excited to find out that somebody out there remembered who his dad
was, and what he did is kind of an understatement!
Next thing I know, there's a pile of Quality Auto pics in my inbox...so
what's a guy to do? Well, put together kind of a Quality Auto retrospective!
So,
here it is...I'm still looking for any decent shot of Fred's last
Bantam, the "Gang Busters" ride, as all I have is the one shot of
the side of the body (thanks, Rod Hynes), and sure would appreciate
anything anyone may have out there.
Check
it out, it's COOL!

Quality
Auto was the family Part Store in Livermore and Pleasanton California
just east of Oakland.
The store was in the family through the early seventies.

are those handsome guys?

This
is an old steel body Fiat with a 530 c.i. Lincoln on gas about 1963.
about 133 mph. My dad's notes state this engine was better for a dump
truck than racing. Chevs always beat this combo.
This
car went from an unblown 100% nitro noisy 292 c.i. Desoto to the Lincoln.
This shot was taken at Fresno. My dad called this car a "stump puller".
The team was Cerruti, Mooney and Zunio. One article had this car at
10.14 and 141 mph.

engine of the times and lots of tire smoke".

This
is a cover from a program for the Lion's Sight Saver Foundation race
of champions in Fremont Raceway. This was my Dad's second AA/FA. It
went 180 mph. The shot was taken waiting in line to run at Fremont.
The date scribbled on the cover is Sept 1968.

1965 this car ran 9.87 / 164.18. It ran a 292 DeSoto on 98% nitro. You
have a picture of this car on your "Outside the West" page. I have the
same picture. In December 1963 they won second eliminator with the Cerruti,
Mooney, Zunio, Grey car in Fremont with a 160.73 / 9.58.

You'll have to ask my dad why.
I guess they had to answer a lot of questions on that so they paint
"This is a fuel tank" on it.
This car ran on the west coast from Fremont to Tuscon.

captured the Cerruti Quality Auto Bantam here in the pits at what I
believe to be Lions...if I'm off here, please let me know...as I'm not
familiar with the look of the pits at the SoCal tracks of old.
